Country Limit documents the ‘in between places’ of rural America, just beyond the urban boundaries – ‘City Limits’ – and before reaching the vast countryside.  The series is organised in two parts: firstly, it introduces people whose fragility seems to be defined by their geographical and hence social marginalisation.  Then, in reference to the New Topographics movement, the series explores the dialogue between nature and civilisation, expressed through the reconciliation, compromise and resistance that are central and recurrent themes of the Anthropocene epoch.  In the process of making this series, I wanted to bring an empathetic viewpoint to these American spaces and participate in and enrich the debate on social and natural considerations.

[…] “American photography has become an art of the 20th century. Measuring up to the genre comes down, in Ronan Guillou’s view, to exploring the theme that structures the whole of American photography: Time. Signified as the exploration of a space, Country Limit in fact falls within the poetry of temporality.” M. Poivert
